Dr. Tereso A. Abella, professor, College of Fisheries and director of the Freshwater Aquaculture Center, was designated by President Ruben C. Sevilleja as Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) effective November 15, 2013.
He took over the post vacated by Dr. Soledad M. Roguel who reached compulsory retirement last November 14 after having rendered 44 years of government service, 42 years of which were spent in CLSU.
Dr. Abella took his oath administered by President Sevilleja during the Monday Flag raising Ceremony last November 18. He thanked the president for the trust and confidence he had accorded to him which he hoped to live up to.
He also thanked his family, most especially his wife, Mina supervising research specialist of PCC at CLSU, “ for the many years of supporting me... and also for training me as ‘vice president’. This he said with his usual wholesome sense of humor.
The President emphasized that his having designated Dr. Abella as VPAA (and also Dr. Emmanuel Vera Cruz as dean of the College of Fisheries) is “a manifestation of my full trust and confidence in their capability to perform their respective duties and responsibilities.
“Accepting the VPAA position means having greater responsibility and bigger tasks. There is no turning back though, as I want to continue serving this great university which provided me a very rich training ground for honing my capability to handle the duties attached to the position I have just been entrusted with by the President”, VP Abella said.
He also stressed that he wants to be of greater service to the academic community particularly to the university’s major clientele – the students – by looking at their immediate needs but not undermining the welfare of the faculty members.
Dr. Abella also said that with the support of the University Administration and the Council of Deans and Directors “we can introduce new initiatives to sustain the momentum of the Academic Program that was started by my predecessors”.
